Rapid Impact Replacement (RIR)

Rapid Impact Replacement (RIR) is a ground improvement method where through dropping continuous high frequency drops, print short columns are formed. The prints can be filled with granular material (Sands or gravels) to improve the weak soils. These columns of granular material are called “pillars”.
This technique is similar to Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) but in this case, pounding is used to form granular pillars of certain diameter through the weak soils.

This method combines the advantages of RIC with the advantage of replacing
the weak soil by granular material.
