Dynamic Replacement (DR)

Dynamic Replacement (DR) is derived from Dynamic compaction method used usually for shallow depths (up to 5m or to 6m with pre-excavation). This soil improvement method is proposed for compressible soils with fine content more than 30% (like soft clays, silts, sabkha material) which is replaced by granular soils such as aggregate, cobbles, and/or sands.

Dynamic replacement is applied using pounders with diameter up to 2.5m by dropping heavy pounders from specific heights to create a pillar.
This pillar is filled with good material with high elastic modulus and low fine content. The repeatedly drops create a stiff crater column to homogenize the soil.
